Voodoo Unveils XF450 Flagship Hydrofoil Catamaran: 30‑Knot Explorer with Full‑Beam Beach Club

New Zealand builder Voodoo Yachts has revealed the first details of the XF450, a 36.3‑metre hydrofoil‑assisted catamaran slated to become the yard’s flagship. Voodoo describes the XF450 as “the largest and most advanced yacht the company has ever designed,” positioning it atop the company’s existing range of foiling powercats.

The XF450 evolves from Voodoo’s record‑setting hydrofoil catamaran platform and is explicitly targeted at owners seeking both high speed and long‑range exploration capability. The announcement follows the yard’s launch earlier this year of the high‑speed XF75 expedition foiler series and signals a continued focus on foiling technologies for larger displacement and semi‑displacement powercat designs.

Design highlights: 36.3m size, 10.5m beam, 450GT

The XF450 measures 36.3 metres overall with a 10.5‑metre beam and a light volume of 450GT. Hydrofoil assistance is central to the naval architecture, intended to lower resistance at speed and improve fuel efficiency, with an expected cruise of around 30 knots while retaining an extended operational range.

The model is offered as a semi‑custom design in two main configurations: an open flybridge or an enclosed flybridge. The hull, foil arrangement and systems are engineered to balance performance and explorer capability, with the design brief placing equal emphasis on speed, range and reduced environmental impact.

Interior and beach club: wellness, tower, helipad option

A defining feature of the XF450 is its full‑beam beach club, which opens on three sides to create an expansive, direct connection to the water. The beach club is arranged as two distinct areas — a lounge with a bar and a flexible wellness studio that can be fitted for fitness, yoga, massage or spa use — and includes direct access to a sauna or hammam, cold plunge, shower and dayhead. The aft deck extends the space for toys and easy tender handling.

Interior styling is by American firm Christian Oliver Design, which specifies durable, tactile finishes such as light woods, neutral fabrics, woven textiles and sculpted surfaces. A dramatic light well or living tower rises through the three decks from the beach club to the upper deck bar and is finished with greenery, a hand‑carved dark wood panel and a stone bar feature. Accommodation comprises a five‑cabin layout including a full‑beam owner’s suite with 180‑degree views, plus space for up to eight additional berths for crew, multiple lounge and dining configurations and dedicated storage for wellness equipment. There is also provision for an optional helipad with refueling capability.

XF450 significance: exploration range, speed, sustainability

The XF450 represents an attempt to reconcile competing priorities in modern powercat design: high transit speeds, long range and the onboard amenities expected of an explorer yacht. By applying hydrofoil technology at this scale, Voodoo aims to reduce fuel burn and associated emissions at cruise speeds while maintaining the seakeeping and payload capacity required for extended voyages.

Voodoo’s initial release provides the principal dimensions, interior concepts and the performance targets that define the XF450; further technical specifications, build options, performance validation and delivery timelines are expected as the programme progresses. As presented, the XF450 positions the yard to serve owners interested in fast, long‑range voyaging without sacrificing onboard comfort or dedicated wellness and beach‑level spaces.
