Where I'll Be This September (And What's Happening in Yachting)

September is one of the busiest months on the yachting calendar, and this year is no exception. Boat shows are where deals get made, relationships get built, and buyers get a real feel for what is out there instead of scrolling listings from a couch. I want to walk you through where I will actually be this month, and give you my read on a couple of the bigger shows happening overseas that are worth watching even if you are not flying out for them.

Where I'll Be This September

Newport International Boat Show

I will be on the ground at the Newport International Boat Show, running September 17 through 20 in Newport, Rhode Island. It is one of the best shows in the Northeast for a reason. You get sail and power side by side, real inventory in the water, and serious buyers who are done browsing and ready to talk specifics. As a broker with LBY, I will be walking the docks, meeting with clients, and looking at boats I would actually put in front of my own buyers.

Metro Boat Show

That same week, September 17 through 20, I will also be connected to the Metro Boat Show at Lake St. Clair Metropark. It draws a different crowd than Newport, more regional and family focused, but it is still a good pulse check on where demand sits outside the usual South Florida and Northeast circuit.

Cannes Yachting Festival

The Cannes Yachting Festival runs September 8 through 13 at Vieux Port and Port Canto. It kicks off the European fall show season and it is one of the largest in water displays anywhere, with new builds and brokerage boats sitting right next to each other. Watching what debuts in Cannes tells you a lot about where design and demand are trending for the year ahead.

Monaco Yacht Show

Then the Monaco Yacht Show follows September 23 through 26 at Port Hercule. This is the show for the top end of the market. It is where you see what the most sophisticated buyers in the world are putting their money into, and that confidence tends to trickle down to every level below it. I always pay attention to Monaco even from a distance, because it sets the tone for the rest of the season.
